How the NDIS works
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s first national scheme for people with disability. The scheme helps people with permanent and significant disability overcome any barriers to taking part in everyday activities. The goal of the NDIS is to help people live as independently as possible by supporting them to access the supports they need.
These supports are individualised for each person’s needs and goals and may include help within the home, social support, participation in the community, employment and much more. Australian citizens, permanent residents, or a protected Special Category Visa holder under 65 years of age can be funded for supports if they are deemed eligible.
